I grew up in the small town of DeWitt in southeast Arkansas. Anytime someone asked me what I wanted to be when “I grew up,” I might have said an astronaut, doctor, or teacher, but certainly not a massage therapist. Although I was fortunate that my parents made sure that I knew life existed beyond rice and soybean farms, my only notion of massage therapists had come from movies: the Swedish Helga pummeling a socialite beside the pool of a multi-million dollar mansion. I never even had a massage until after I had finished a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) and a Master of Arts degree from Mississippi State University. My idea of what a massage actually was changed immediately after receiving my first therapeutic treatment.

Massage is therapy, not just a luxury for those with extra time and money. I am living proof that it is capable of creating a better life for people with a variety of ailments. When I received my first massage, I had been suffering from severe anxiety attacks. Massage is one of the main reasons I no longer need medication to control the attacks, and as is often the case, a life-changing experience creates a career-changing one.

I entered massage therapy school with the primary purpose of becoming a medical massage therapist, hoping to help others the way that I was helped. I completed my basic massage licensure through Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy in April of 2004, yet I still do not feel as if I have “finished school.” I continue to take medical massage classes frequently, and I have specialized in Myofascial Release, one of the most amazing bodyworks I have ever experienced.

I practice all types of massage in our chiropractic office, but from the results I have seen, a combination of Myofascial Release, massage, and chiropractic treatment are extremely effective in treating all types of pain. Most importantly, I treat each patient according to his or her body and muscular needs to help create a pain-free lifestyle.

Dr. Chris Asks some important questions of interest to Hattiesburg residents - Chiropractor Hattiesburg Dr. Chris Asks...

How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in vertebral subluxation complex. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
